L.A. Honda World Racing announces 2022 SRO/TC America driver lineup
Team is heavy in depth and experience
LOS ANGELES, CA - L.A.Honda World Racing is pleased to announce its four-driver lineup for the 2022 SRO/TC America season.
Part of the Honda PerformanceDevelopment (HPD) program, L.A. Honda World Racing is the official race team of L.A. Honda World, a factory-authorized Honda dealership in the Los Angeles suburb of Downey, California.
L.A. Honda World Racing will take part in all seven weekend events on the 2022 SRO/TC America racing schedule – with each event including two races per weekend, for a season total of 14 races to be contested for the series championship.
The lineup includes racers Mike LaMarra, Spencer Bucknum, Mat Pombo, and team principal Mario Biundo.
The seven SRO/TC America race weekends include Sonoma Raceway (April 15-17), Ozarks International Raceway (May 20-22), Virginia International Raceway (June 17-19), Watkins Glen International (July22-24), Road America (August 19-21), Sebring International Raceway (Sept. 23-25) and the season finale at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (Oct. 7-9).
Driving the No. 73 car and the team’s veteran member, LaMarra enters his fourth season with L.A. Honda World. After an incredible first win in SRO last season at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, LaMarra hopes to keep the momentum going in 2022.
“The entire team worked tirelessly throughout the year, and I was happy to bring home a win for them,” said LaMarra. “I’m thrilled to be back with the L.A. Honda World SRO team and drive the Honda Type R TC Civic to victory once again.”
Third generation driver Bucknum is hoping to relive his Formula Pro USA F4 Western Series championship this year driving the No. 5 car.
“I was fortunate enough to run the full season of the Formula Pro USA F4 Western Championship back in 2020 and managed to rack up enough wins, podiums and points in general to win the championship by the end of the year,” said Bucknum. “This season I’m hoping for solid results that will help me win the 2022 TCA Championship for HPD and L.A. Honda World.”
Having already reached victory lane twice in an SRO/TC Honda at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Pombo is preparing for a full season in 2022 behind the wheel of the No. 37.
“My pro racing career has been built around front wheel drive touring cars which I have been lucky enough to professionally race over the last decade,” Pombo said. “I’m excited about the touring car class and running the Honda Civic as we gear up for another season.”
“I focused my rookie season last year on gaining experience to prepare me for this year’s race season,” said Biundo, who will drive the No. 77 Honda in 2022. “Not only have I enjoyed the learning curve, but the personal connection that I established with our team. Last year was incredibly fulfilling, especially as a driver and team principal.”
Being both a driver and team principal is an additional challenge for Biundo.
“Racing is not easy, nor is running a race team or being the leader of a high expectation Honda business,” Biundo added.“But having the support and confidence of the entire LA Honda World Racing Team, LA Honda World dealership team at home and SRO staff brings comfort”
In addition to the four-driver lineup, veteran driver Ryan Eversley returns to L.A. Honda World Racing as a coach for the four SRO/TC America drivers and will also compete in three more races for the team in the IMSA series at Mid-Ohio, Watkins Glen and Atlanta.
